Sunflowers

I planted some of my Sunflowers today. I put them by the air conditioners and I plan to plant shorter (Teddy Bear) Sunflowers in front. I also planted some lime green Sunflowers by the fence (in back of the green beans and lettuce).
My back is sore from moving more plants. I potted up 6 large Salvia plants for our garden club plant sale next month. I winter sowed Salvia and now it's taking over my beds! They have runners and long, long roots....and reseed all over...glad to get rid of some! I replaced these plants with some Rudbeckia I had in my holding bed. I also planted some Rudbeckia in the side bed and (hopefully) some Shasta Daisies too. The tags for these plants faded and I'm not sure what they are!

Ouch

Red Peony Poppies
Veggie bed
Bunny Tails
Worked in the garden for a little bit today. P/T really hurt and it's hard to walk around the yard. I planted some Red Peony Poppies around the Black Gum Trees, in the front yard. I also plopped some in the front bed (by the BBB). I planted some Bunny Grass in the front bed, moved some Sedum around in the front bed (by the window boxes), and moved more Sedum in the Cherry Tree bed. I planted these plants (bought at our annual plant sale) last year, but all in the wrong spots! Oh, I also moved two plants from our holding bed to the front bed. I "thought" they were Daisies, but the foliage does not look the same. My "markers" faded, so I guess we will wait and see what blooms! I planted some Allysum in the front of these plants. We were supposed to get rain today, but it moved on and we didn't get a drop. I guess I will be walking around tomorrow watering everything!

Lots of work

Yesterday we had temps on the 80's again. DH, and I, worked in the yard all day. I cleared out the back triangle bed, and raked all the leaves in the long bed by the back fence. I'm glad I did because my Sweet William was trying to come in, as was all my Lobelia! The SW looks sparse, so I don't think I will have the same show as I did last year. ;( The Lobelia looks great even though some were lime green from lack of sun.
I also planted out my veggies! I planted the lettuce, broccoli (all the plants that my dog didn't eat yet!), and green beans. DH enclosed the area with wire fencing.
In the afternoon I planted some Poppies around the tree (by the hot tub) in the back and in the back corner of the deck. Red Peony Poppies are around the tree and Heavenly Angel Peony Poppies by the deck.
Before dinner I transplanted several Hollyhocks that reseeded by the Hosta's. I planted them by the back fence, which will hopefully hide the neighbors rusting fence. If they don't make it, I have some that I grew this year, but they won't bloom until next year.
We finished off the day having a drink and dinner on the deck....heaven!

What a beautiful day!

It was in the low 80's today and DH, and I, cleared out some of our beds. I got the front two cleared, along with the side bed. Tomorrow I will clear out the back bed and plant my veggies. DH did most of the hard work, and I had to sit down many times due to my previous ankle surgery 2 weeks ago. My ankle hurt, but it was soooo worth it!
I need to plant all of these tomorrow!

Spring brings green!

I organized my plants and put the ones I need to plant out under our table and chair set. We are expecting strong storms and the tables allow rain to come through, but won't shred them if the storms produce hail.
We will be in the high 70's throughout the weekend so I'm hoping to get most of these plants in the ground. I have Sunflowers, Broccoli, Lettuce, and lots of Poppies ready for the ground.
I also checked on my Zinnia's and found that some of them DID survive the frost! I reseeded the pots that had dead Zinnia's and then checked on my other plants. All my plants are fine except the Cosmo's. ALL of them died! I glad I saved some seeds, so I resowed these too.

Whew!

We got down into the 20's last night. I checked on all my babies and everything looks great! The Poppies are perky, as are the BB, Cosmo's, and Hollyhocks. My Zinnia's look depressed, but I'm hoping they will perk up this afternoon. I have extra seeds in case they die.

where did the sun go??

As you can see, our "spring weather" is gone.....replaced by snow! If you look closely, you can see the snow flakes in the air.
The good news is that all my plants are ok...even though it got below 32 degrees!

What else is there to do on a sunny day?

Winter sow, of course! I'm almost finished. I potted up my containers I worked on yesterday. I'm glad I did this in two parts...my ankle was throbbing when I finished sowing the last pots! I sowed: 3 pots of Blue Flax 3 pots of Pink Foxglove 3 pots of Sweet William 6 pots of Veronica-Blue 8 pots of Purple Hollyhocks 4 pots of Mexican Hats 3 pots of Autumn Lollypop 6 pots of Agastache-Blue and 4 pots of Yellow Pear Tomatoes I am planning on selling all of these plants, execpt my tomato plants. I had great success selling some of my seeds on Craigslist.....so why not try my hand at selling plants? I can always use them in my beds if they don't sell.

A warm and sunny day

It was in the 60's today so I took some pictures of my new babies. I also got several pots ready to sow. My ankle would only let me do a few, but it's supposed to hit 70 degrees tomorrow, so I will finish these then...yipee!
Bachelor Buttons. I sowed them in the container that they will live in.
Pink Peony Poppies
Sunflowers

Pink Foxgloves

Fire and Snow Poppies

and Candy Cane Zinnias

OK, I'm off to "tuck them in" for the night!

And then there was more....

Lots of new green out today. I wasn't able to uncover the pots yesterday, and we got up to 70 degrees! My plants looks fine today and I discovered more sprouts....Lime Green Sunflowers. Candy Cane Zinnias Red Hollyhock Bunny Tails, Blue Flax, Pink Foxglove, and Johnny Jump Ups! I'm hoping to start planning my new garden. DH is not totally convinced of this plan, but he's closer than he was last year! I want to put up picket fencing around a veggie/flower garden in the middle of our yard. We have a very large backyard, with little landcaping. I'm hoping that this will fill the big void in the middle of the yard, and provide a nice place to garden!

I see green!

I have lots of little baby sprouts! My Red Peony Poppies Lettuce Red Cosmo's Teddy Bear Sunflowers Broccoli, and Dwarf White Cosmo's!!!! I also took advantage of the warm weather (and because after Tues, I won't be able to sow for awhile) and sowed: Oregano - 3 pots Chives - 3 pots Rosemary - 3 pots Dill - 3 pots Zinnia Tall White - 4 pots.

To winter sow, or not to winter sow?

This is my "baby Hosta". I started it by seed (winter sowing) and now it's having it's own babies! This picture was taken last year.
It's freezing outside, so I am only going to dream of sowing my seeds.
A Zinnia from last year.
And a Rudbeckia......I can't wait for spring!
