Winter sowing is a method I use to start my seeds outdoors during the months of January through March. I learned of this method from Gardenweb.com. This is my 4th year winter sowing and I have had great success with this method. You may view some of my success at http://new.photos.yahoo.com/shoeforyou222/album/576460762356960809#page1

They look like an aster or boltonia, definitely not a weed but they can reseed and become weedy. After my asters bloom I do deadhead them otherwise I get way too many volunteers.
